Dr. Dawn Eichenfield is a double board-certified dermatologist and pediatric dermatologist practicing at Rady Children’s Hospital–San Diego and serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. In addition to training medical students, residents, and fellows, she collaborates in specialized multidisciplinary programs, including the Vascular Lesions Clinic and the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic.
Dr. Eichenfield’s clinical and research expertise centers on pediatric dermatology, laser medicine, dermatologic surgery, and complex inflammatory conditions such as atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and vascular birthmarks. A dedicated clinical and translational investigator, she actively publishes in leading medical journals and contributes to research initiatives advancing pediatric dermatologic care. She is an active member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD), the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
Dr. Eichenfield earned her undergraduate degrees in biology and psychology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), conducting research in immunology and bioengineering. She obtained her MD and PhD through the Medical Scientist Training Program at UC San Diego, where she also completed her dermatology residency and served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowship training in pediatric dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital.
